St. Catherine of Siena Medical
Center aides in the Journey of Bereavement

Smithtown, New York - St. Catherine of Siena
Medical Center will be offering new bereavement support groups
to the community. A general bereavement support group and
a specific surviving suicide loss bereavement support group
will be offered Fall 2008.
The introduction of the bereavement groups are the result
of St. Catherine’s dedication to providing a continuum
of healthcare to the community. People coping with grief need
assistance and support to deal with the emotional and psychological
stress after the death of a loved-one.
Mutual support of a bereavement group plays a vital role
in well-being. Bereavement groups allow those who have lost
a loved one to share their struggles and feelings with others
who have experienced similar loss. Bereavement groups have
many benefits; they can dispel fears and assure feelings are
normal, allowing grievers to progress in healing. The groups
are facilitated by trained and caring social workers, experienced
in crisis counseling and mental health assessment, who thoroughly
understand the bereavement process.
The General Bereavement Support Group will
meet for eight consecutive weeks on Monday afternoons from
2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, beginning September 15, 2008 through November
3, 2008. The Surviving Suicide Loss Bereavement Support
Group will meet on the second Thursday of each month
beginning September 11, 2008 through December 11, 2008. Those
interested in joining either group may due so at any time,
permitting space. Pre-registration is required and a commitment
to attend all sessions is strongly encouraged. Both groups
will be held at the Siena Village Library, located on 2000
Bishops Road, Smithtown, New York. To join either bereavement
group, call (631) 360-6000, extension 209.
